[origin: WO2004101924A1] The invention relates to a motor vehicle door lock, the basic design of which comprises a locking mechanism (2, 3) that is accommodated inside a housing (1), e.g. a lock case (1), and a reinforcing element (5) for the locking mechanism (2, 3). According to the invention, the reinforcing element (5) is provided with a lateral protrusion (11) relative to the housing (1), said lateral protrusion extending in a direction that runs essentially opposite a potential direction of impact (A), allowing the crash safety to be substantially improved.
