[origin: WO2004103552A1] Disclosed is an agent, particularly for adsorbing protein from protein-containing liquids in the food sector, comprising at least one smectitic layered silicate having a total cation exchange capacity of about 30 to 120 mVal/l00g. The inventive agent is characterized in that the potassium ion content amounts to less than 50 percent, preferably less than 40 percent, and more than 8 percent, preferably more than 12 percent, of the total cation exchange capacity of the layered silicate. Also disclosed are a method for producing an adsorbing agent and the preferred use thereof.
