[origin: WO2004104595A2] The invention provides a human PEPD which is associated with the cardiovascular disorders, dermatological disorders, gastrointestinal and liver diseases, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases, cancer disorders, neurological disorders, respiratory diseases, hematological disorders, urological disorders and endocrinological disorders. The invention also provides assays for the identification of compounds useful in the treatment or prevention of cardiovascular disorders, dermatological disorders, gastrointestinal and liver diseases, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases, cancer disorders, neurological disorders, respiratory diseases, hematological disorders, urological disorders and endocrinological disorders. The invention also features compounds which bind to and/or activate or inhibit the activity of PEPD as well as pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds.
