[origin: WO2004104947A2] The invention relates to a device for checking banknotes which scans the banknotes to be checked by means of a semiconductor array. The inventive device for checking banknotes comprises two linear semiconductor arrays that are configured by at least three layers that are sensitive to light of various wavelengths. A first linear semiconductor array scans the banknotes in a defined range of spectral sensitivity of the semiconductor (e.g. in the visible range) and a second linear semiconductor array scans the banknotes in a range different thereof (e.g. in the range of the non-visible infrared light). A color image of the banknote and at least one image in the range of the non-visible light is obtained on the basis of the signals of the two arrays by suitably combining the signals. The inventive device is simple and inexpensive to produce and yields good results of checking as it avoids image errors that can for example be caused by parallax errors.
