Abstract (en)

A safety mounting for a swing top cover (2) for a refuse bin, e.g. a bin supported on four castors, has the cover pivot mounted on the narrow ends of the bin via two pivot arms (21). The opening action of the cover is against return spring (5) pressure with a safety feature which stops the closing action of the cover in a partially opened position. A safety brake (30) secures the partially open position and with the spring force zero in this position. The safety feature prevents injury on releasing the cover, e.g. children playing around the bins. Manual force is required to fully close the cover.
