In a suspension needle (1) for a knitting machine, comprising a needle chest (12) and a suspension spring (specifically box suspension spring) (3) with a spring chest (35), the spring is reversibly displaceable on the needle between a suspension position (UN) and a stitch division position (MT) by execution of relative movement between the spring chest and the needle chest.
