[origin: EP1630758A2] A scattered light smoke detector gives a measurement (S) depending on a linear combination of the difference in forward (SF) and backward (SB) scattered signals or the derived smoke signals (BW, FW) and their sums using installation dependent coefficients. Independent claims are included for smoke detectors with two separate processing channels for fire type determination (21, 23) and warning threshold (22, 25-30) combination.
