Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2004108495A1] The invention relates to a braking device for a vehicle, comprising a first brake control unit (6, 8, 9, 10, 15, 27) and a second brake control unit (7, 16, 17, 18). The vehicle can be braked by actuating the first brake control unit and by actuating the second brake control unit. In order to perform an automatic emergency braking operation of the vehicle, the first brake control unit cooperates with a first evaluation unit (19) while the second brake control unit cooperates with a second evaluation unit (21). The first evaluation unit (19) and the second evaluation unit (21) independently determine whether an automatic braking operation is to be performed by actuating the respective brake control unit, and the second evaluation unit (21) triggers an automatic braking operation if the first evaluation unit (19) and/or the first brake control device malfunction/s during operation.
