[origin: WO2004106277A1] The invention concerns the recovery of monomeric esters of substituted or unsubstituted acrylic acid or of monomers containing styrene from polymer material (66) containing corresponding structural units. According to the invention, the polymer material is brought into contact with a heat transfer medium inside a heated reactor (51). The heat transfer medium and the polymer material (66) are agitated inside the reactor (51), and gas, which forms inside the reactor (51) and which contains the monomer, is drawn out of the reactor (51). The heat transfer medium contains a multitude of spherical particles (67), which has been proven to be particularly advantageous for achieving high yields and purity of the monomer to be recovered.
