Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2004111574A1] The invention relates to a navigation system for a motor vehicle, comprising an arithmetic unit (1) that is connected to an input unit (2), to an output unit (3, 4) for outputting information for guiding the driver to the destination according to the actual position of the vehicle, to a memory element (5) containing information concerning traffic lanes (15, 17), and to means for determining position. The arithmetic unit is also designed for calculating a route between a starting location and a destination while using road map data and is designed for determining the information for guiding the driver to the destination. The invention provides that the means for determining position include a module (11), which is installed in the vehicle while serving to detect the street in front of the vehicle. In addition, the arithmetic unit (1) is designed for determining a traffic lane (15b), in which the vehicle is currently traveling, from of a number of parallel traffic lanes (15), which are provided for the same direction of travel, by using the data provided by the module (11) for detecting the street in front of the vehicle, and is designed for comparing the traffic lane (15b), in which the vehicle is currently traveling, with the information contained in the road map data and referring to the traffic lanes or a traffic lane selected therefrom.
