[origin: EP1638367A2] The invention relates to a hearing system comprising a hearing device (14), an audio signal transmitter (24, 25), an audio signal source (32) for providing audio signals to the audio signal transmitter, an audio signal receiver unit (12) adapted to establish a wireless link (22) for transmission of the audio signals from the audio signal transmitter to the audio signal receiver unit which is connected to or integrated within the hearing device for providing the audio signals received from the audio signal transmitter as input to the hearing device, means (24, 28, 30, 40, 42, 52) for generating and wirelessly transmitting a polling signal (34) to the audio signal receiver unit, means (26, 28, 30, 44, 54, 56, 58) for receiving the polling signal at the audio signal receiver unit, means (26, 28, 30, 44, 48, 54, 56, 58) for generating and wirelessly transmitting a status information signal (36) containing data regarding the status of the wireless audio signal link and/or the receiver unit, and means (24, 28, 30, 38, 42, 52) for receiving the status information signal and displaying status information.
