Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1640248A2] The method involves providing the sensor (22) with housing (24) and a rotor (26) which turns a predetermined angular amount relative to the housing. The rotor is fitted on the steering shaft (18) which has pinion gearing (20). The steering shaft is inserted in a steering gear (10) which has a toothed rack (14) and the housing is fixed in a predetermined angular position on the steering gear so that the steering shaft can be turned with the rotor through engagement of the pinion gearing in the rack until the rotor has reached the neutral position again relative to the housing. The sensor can have a housing and rotor where the housing is fixed on the steering gear by a sliding guide (28).
