The operating process for an internal combustion engine involves the retention of particles in the exhaust gas in the filtering device. These particles are detected by the first signal from a sensor device. The same sensor device also provides a second signal, which for at least part of the time, is used to report the exhaust gas temperature.

Bei einer Brennkraftmaschine werden im Abgas vorhandene Partikel in einer Filtereinrichtung zurückgehalten und anhand eines ersten Signals einer Sensoreinrichtung detektiert. Es wird vorgeschlagen, dass die gleiche Sensoreinrichtung ein zweites Signal liefert, welches wenigstens zeitweise zur Ermittlung der Abgastemperatur (T ex ) verwendet wird.
