[origin: WO2005002461A1] Disclosed is an orthodontic device comprising a base member that is provided with a base area for fixing said device to a tooth, a slit defined by a bottom surface and two lateral surfaces which are arranged on both sides of the bottom surface and extend essentially parallel to and at a distance from each other, and an element for at least partly covering the open side of the slit located across from the bottom surface, the slit penetrating the base member in a substantially straight line in the longitudinal direction thereof on a side facing the base area and being used for receiving a curved wire. The aim of the invention is to create an orthodontic device which is convertible, provides an increased degree of safety for the wearer thereof, and is easier to handle during conversion. Said aim is achieved by providing the lateral surfaces of the slit with a positively locking guide which extends essentially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the slit, into which the covering element can be inserted, and inside which the same is removably fixed to the base member.
