Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005005209A1] Disclosed is a device for protecting individuals during a frontal impact on a motor vehicle. A typical protective device of said kind operates according to the principle of the active engine hood , in which the hinges are mounted on a hinge support that can be raised by a predefined level by means of a spring-loaded arrangement in case of danger. The aim of the invention is to create a compact, simple device. Said aim is achieved by providing said device with an elongate housing (1) that is mounted in a fixed manner on the vehicle and encompasses a top part (1c) which is guided so as to be raised in a linear fashion and on which a hinge support is mounted or which directly forms said hinge support. Furthermore, two swiveling levers (5, 6) are provided, one end of which is rotatably hinged to bearing pins (3, 4) that are fixed to the housing and extend parallel to each other while the other end thereof comprises guide pins (9, 10) that are accommodated in a sliding manner in raceways (11, 12). Said raceways (11, 12) are embodied in extensions (13a, 13b) which are connected to the top part (1c) of the housing. At least one erecting spring (7, 8) that biases the swiveling levers (5, 6) in the raising direction is associated with the swiveling levers (5, 6).
