[origin: WO2005001867A1] The invention relates to a relay, especially a starting relay (10) for internal combustion engines, the connecting terminals thereof for the switching contact and the excitation winding of the relay being fixed in a switch cover (11) of the relay. The connecting terminal (50) of the excitation winding is embodied as a plug-in connection. The aim of the invention is to reduce the number of different switch covers with a vehicle-specific connection geometry of the excitation winding. To this end, the connection of the excitation winding is embodied as a first part (15) of a plug-in connection, and the second part (18) of said plug-in connection, co-operating with said first part, forms the input of an adapter (17), the output (21a) of said adapter being embodied as a connecting terminal (50) with a vehicle-specific connection geometry.
