[origin: EP1645803A2] The procedure involves injecting fuel at different time interval of ignition period for starting a heater particularly vehicle heater. Fuel is injected into heater with ignition discharge output (mmax) in first ignition phase (tz1). A stabilization phase (tg) will start in which fuel is injected by one stabilization output (mmax) if ignition starts before finish of first ignition phase. A second ignition phase (tz2) will start in which fuel is injected with second ignition output (mmin) if no ignition occurs before expiration of maximum time of first ignition phase.
