[origin: WO2004107015A1] A display device (10) comprising a wave guide having a plurality of parallel channels (12) for conducting light, a back plate (22), and a plurality of light extracting elements (24) positioned orthogonal to the channels (12). The display further comprises actuating means including piezoelectric elements (28, 28' ,36 ,38), which are arranged to move the light extracting elements (24) into and out of physical contact with the wave guide. When contact is made between the channels (12) and the light extracting element (24), light can be coupled out of the wave guide and an image may be displayed.
