Abstract (en)
A paper manufacturing assembly feeds a wet web (1) sandwiched between two dewatering belts (3, 4). After passing through a dewatering gap the web (1) then passes through a smoothing gap formed by two drums (11, 12). The first nip gap (8) is at least 300 mm long in the direction of travel. The dewatering belts are at least 25 m long. The smoothing gap is formed by two drums (11, 12). The upper drum is harder than the lower drum, which is capable of limited vertical displacement to allow unhindered passage of a web. Each smoothing drum has a pulp removal scraper. The web passes through a short open section under a guillotine (10) that is operated in case of web tear or damage to protect ingestion of damaged wet web into the assembly.
