Abstract (en)

The roller (1) in a machine for the production and/or finishing of a paper or cardboard web, and especially the web-forming or fourdrinier suction roller for the pulp, has a roller mantle (2) with a number of water extraction openings (3). The openings are arranged in groups (G1-G3). Carrier bodies (5) are between the openings, for support against the fourdrinier, with a contact surface (6) and carrier flanks (7) aligned to the roller axis. An edge (K) is formed between the carrier surfaces and their flanks. The contact surfaces are coated to give them an increased hardness compared to the remainder of the roller material, to give an increased wear resistance. The coating is a ceramic, hard metal or hard metal alloy material.
