[origin: WO2005021225A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for breaking down conical tree trunks (42) with a conical angle ( alpha ) into wood products (58, 60). The sides of an optionally pre-treated tree trunk (42) are first laterally levelled (46), and the thus produced model (47) is centred (52), and then split by sawing (56). According to the invention, the sides of the tree trunk (42) are levelled parallel to a surface line (43), whereby a lateral guiding surface (50b) is created for the ensuing centring process, said surface being inclined in relation to the longitudinal axis (45) of the tree trunk (42) by the half conical angle ( alpha /2). The model (47) is sawn in a direction (41) parallel to the lateral guiding surface (50b).
