[origin: EP1650351A2] A road bridge or motorway has a crash barrier with a series of upright posts, each resting on a base plate (12) whose top surface area is larger than the cross sectional area of the post. The base plate is attached to fixtures in the kerbside by bolts (14). The bolt holes within the base plate are located beyond the outer side margin of the post.
