Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2403759A] A tuned absorber 5 is mounted on a rail web 1C by pinbrazing onto the web at least two studs 21A, 21B at preselected locations; bringing the absorber into abutment with the web such that the studs extend into respective holes in the absorber; and applying a releasable fastening 24A, 24B to each stud to maintain the absorber in contact with the web. The absorber 5 can comprise a member formed of elastomeric material 6 and of at least one region of a first denser material 7 located within the elastomeric material and forms an active mass, and a second denser material 8, e.g. of channel section or hollow section, also located within the said elastomeric material, adjacent to the first active mass, and coupled to the rail when in use so as to provide a resonant surface against which the said active mass can vibrate. The absorber 5 can have respective active masses which are coupled at one vibration frequency range and decoupled at another range. Two absorbers can be mounted by a spring clip or one absorber can be retained by a steel strap 40. Absorbers can be used to support a rail by lateral clamping brackets.
