[origin: EP1506799A1] The device has a long rail-like profile (1) with a guide part (9,11) along it, for transmission of a force to profile and/or guide. It also has a climbing aid with two climbing blocks (13,15) having a platform or seat (25,27), and a hand grip (21,23) and/or personnel safety device. A pref. turnable, rotating or rolling power transmission element, e.g. a toothed gear (17,19), engages into/on profile or guide part, and is held in place by a retainer (22,24). Guide part and/or profile are formed by a rack-like longitudinal guide. Each climbing block has a hand grip at the top and a platform at the bottom, and the toothed gear has an eddy current brake or a centrifugal brake, to block free downward movement of the block.
