[origin: EP1657078A1] A binding tool of such a type that linear movement of an operation plate is transformed into rotation by a cam function of a shaft to open/close binding rings has a problem that a closing force of the binding rings is not sufficient and biting of a loose leaf occurs. In the binding tool for transforming the linear movement of the operation plate into the rotation by the cam function of the shaft to open/close the binding rings, an engagement plate (9) protruding toward the operation plate (5) is disposed on at least one portion along the longitudinal direction in a shaft (2) supporting movable-side binding rings. The operation plate (5) has at least one cutout (10) and a bottom-surface-side engaging portion (14) in a movement range corresponding to the engagement plate (9). When the operation plate (5) is in a push-in position, the engagement plate (9) engages with the engaging portion (14) of the operation plate (5). When the engagement plate (9) moves to a position other than the push-in position, the cutout (10) is aligned in the position of the engagement plate (9) to thereby release the engagement plate (9).
