[origin: EP1657194A1] A paper mill discharges a web (10) of paper to a roll winding station (1) with longitudinal knife cutters (14) forming two strips and feeding a number of winding sub-stations (22-25). The assembly has a first winding sub-station (2) with a central drum (4) feeding two axially transposed winding units. The assembly has a second winding sub-station (3) using the same central drum (4) and feeding further axially transposed winding units (24, 25) which feed alternately to the first (2) and second (3) winding stations. The first (2) and second (3) main winding stations are located either side of the main central drum (4). The winding rollers at each station are located at different heights. The assembly further includes web splicing stations and a pulp trap for trimmings, and is co-located with e.g. a paper mill or printing press.
