[origin: EP1657198A2] The web (02) is split into product sections (04) in a cross-cutting device (03) provided in one of the subsequent processing stages. The web passes through a severing device (08) prior to the cross-cutting device. The severing device performs a correctly registered cutting using a signal (I) representing the phase position of the cross-cutting device, the signal being phase-correlated with the phase position of the cross-cutting device. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for reliable severing and feeding a web.
