[origin: WO2005024114A1] The invention relates to an umbrella-like laundry dryer comprising a central vertical tube (1) that supports a spreading frame (2), which can be swung upon by a hoisting line (10) and which is provided for the clothes line. The spreading frame (2) comprises an upper sleeve (4), which encircles the vertical tube (1) and to which supporting arms (3) arranged in the shape of a star are coupled. These supporting arms (3), via their lower ends, are connected in an articulated manner to bearing arms (5), which are likewise arranged in the shape of a star and which are provided for the clothes line. The bearing arms (5) are, via their lower ends, coupled to a lower sleeve (6), which encircles the vertical tube (1) and which can be slid along the vertical tube (1). The hoisting line (10) acts upon the lower sleeve (6). The lower sleeve (6) can be fixed by a releasable fixing device (7) in different positions on the vertical tube (1). The lower sleeve (6) is additionally equipped with a force transmitting assembly (9), which can be actuated by a tensioning line and which produces an upwardly directed movement step of the lower sleeve (6). The force transmitting assembly (9) contains a force multiplying and force transmitting element (17), which is coupled to the tensioning line and produces an upwardly directed movement step of the lower sleeve (6) when the tensioning line is actuated. The hoisting line (10) can be provided in the form of a tensioning line for actuating the force transmitting assembly (9).
