Abstract (en)
A heald shaft has a heald rail (6) carried on a transverse frame side (2) incorporating cross members (11, 12), some or all of which are thicker at the ends than in the middle of the span. The thickness variation can be in the form of steps, wedges or an arch. The transverse frame side (2) can be a single hollow aluminum extruded section or of composite construction. An independent claim is also included for a loom incorporating a heald shaft of this kind. Composite constructions have metal cross members (11, 12) joined by a side wall (8) of fiber reinforced plastic, rigid foam or honeycomb material. The metal components of the heald shaft are joined by welding and the remainder assembled using adhesives.
