Abstract (en)

[origin: DE102004041705A1] The control system for a conveyor belt (1), of an elastomer material and an embedded reinforcement passing around an idle drum (2), has an opto-electronic system (3) which monitors the carrier side of the belt to register faults and damage during working, and trigger stop actions for repair when a critical situation is detected. The monitor is linked to a process computer (7) to evaluate data, which is connected to the conveyor drive control. The whole of the conveyor belt is divided into defined sections (X) of 10-500 m, each with a unique address marking at a transponder (11), for each section to be scanned without contact. The section is registered by a scanner (4) which detects a start marker (6) as a visible sign or a magnet and the address, and also by a second scanner. The first scanner has an antenna (12) and a transponder reader (13). A moving section of the belt drives an encoder (5). The scanners and the encoder are linked to the process computer.
