[origin: WO2005024296A1] The invention relates to a headlight for vehicles comprising a reflector (3), which has two focal points (1, 2), and comprising a diaphragm shaft (5) that is placed between a lens (4) and the reflector (3). Said diaphragm shaft (5) is mounted in a manner that enables it to be displaced about a horizontal rotation axis (7), which is transversal to the optical axis (6), into a number of rotation positions. The lateral surface of the diaphragm shaft (5) has, for each rotation position, a focal line (8), which produces a bright/dark limit. The diaphragm shaft (5) has, in a rotation position for high beam, at least in an area adjacent to the optical axis, a flattening (9) oriented toward the upper side of the headlight.
