[origin: WO2005035529A1] The invention relates to specific photochromic phenanthropyrans and the use thereof in all types of plastics, particularly for ophthalmic purposes. The invention especially relates to photochromic compounds which are derived from 2H-phenanthro[2,1- b]pyrans and 3H-phenanthro[3,4-b]pyrans and are provided with particularly long wavelength absorption maxima in the open form while being colorless in the non-excited state.
