[origin: FR2859716A1] The device has a central shaft provided with one wheel at each end. A mandrel (7) rolls and unrolls a closing unit (2) e.g. tarpaulin, and is driven in rotation by a driving unit. The mandrel extends around the shaft between the wheels, and is guided in rotation by a guiding unit mounted on the shaft. A displacement unit (14) partly supports the driving unit and has a gripping handle (15) for exerting a force on the device. The wheels are separated from one another with measurement greater than width of a surface to be covered. The handle exerts the force on the device in its displacement direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for covering and uncovering a surface.
