[origin: WO2006000179A1] The invention relates to a process for producing a hollow door element (10) for a door leaf composed of a hollow element (10) and a cover element, involving: a) providing a metal sheet (34), b) bending a first edge strip (16) of the metal sheet (34) to at least partially form an upper or lower end face (20) of the door leaf, c) bending a second edge strip (18) to at least partially form a narrow lateral face (22) of the door leaf, and d) welding the two edge strips (18, 19) at a corner (8) of the hollow element (10). Steps b) and c) may be carried out in any order. In order to simplify the process considerably and to facilitate the production of special sizes on an industrial scale, the process according to the invention involves welding the two edge strips (16, 18) together directly, without tabs, at an abutment point (52) at which the edge strips (16, 18) meet to form a corner.
