[origin: WO2005022382A2] Disclosed is a method for installing a program component on an arithmetic unit, which is used for ensuring the compatibility of software units and components especially in embedded systems that can be updated by means of a reloading process. According to the inventive method, verification is made prior to the installation as to whether the program component that is to be installed is compatible with a program component which is already installed on the arithmetic unit. The program component is installed only if the compatibility test has been positive.
