The headlight has an optical unit which covers a light forming element. Die Erfindung betrifft einen Scheinwerfer (1) für Fahrzeuge mit einem flächenhaften Leuchtfeld (2,15) und mit einer dem Leuchtfeld (2,15) vorgelagerten Optikeinheit (3), die ein Abbildungselement (5) zur Abbildung einer vorgegeben Lichtverteilung umfasst, wobei die Optikeinheit (3) zusätzlich ein Lichtformungselement (4,14) umfasst, das das von dem Leuchtfeld (2,15) ausgesandte Licht derart führt, dass ein Zwischenbild entsprechend der vorgegebenen Lichtverteilung (L 2 ) in einer zwischen dem Leuchtfeld (2,15) und dem Abbildungselement (5) angeordneten Zwischenebene (9) erzeugt wird.
