[origin: EP1674416A1] The elevator with an elevator car (11) has first movable means (100) provided on the elevator car which for the limiting of the path of travel of the elevator car interact with second means (400) installed in the elevator shaft. The movability of the elevator car is blocked if a device for the sensing or monitoring of the position of a step plate on the roof of the car or at the bottom of the elevator shaft (10) registers the step plate in a predetermined position. A device for the sensing and monitoring of the position of the first and/or second movable means partially lifts the blocking function of the step plate position sensing device if the first and second movable means are in their blocking position. An independent claim is included for an elevator car with a device for the sensing or monitoring of the position of step plate provided on the roof of the car.
