[origin: EP1674797A2] The appliance has a control unit (20) for switching consumers (10, 12, 14, 16, 18) to a stand-by-mode. The control unit is provided partially independent of an energy supply to switch the consumers into an energy saving mode. The control unit is provided for observing malfunction characteristics of the appliances. A safety unit such as fault display unit or heat display unit is provided using an appropriate arrangement. An independent claim is also included for a method with a household appliance.
