[origin: WO2005042418A1] The invention relates to a reactor (10), for anaerobic wastewater treatment, embodied as a loop reactor with a central flow channel (20). Support elements (50), for the immobilisation of micro-organisms, are placed in the annular area (40) between the central flow channel (20) and the reactor wall, flow paths being formed between adjacent support elements (50). The lower section of the reactor (30), located under the support elements, is embodied as a chamber, provided for receiving wastewater with the micro-organisms floating therein, on operation of said reactor (10). On operation, floating micro-organisms as well as micro-organisms, immobilised on the support elements, are provided. The wastewater to be treated flows downwards in the centre and returns upwards along the support elements (40), the current being partially generated by gas evolution from the micro-organisms. A method for anaerobic wastewater treatment is carried out by means of said reactor which is suitable for wastewater treatment in the food and feedstuffs industry and in the paper and textile industry.
