The lever element may be lowered beneath the water surface (25) to below the keel of the to-be-levered ship such that a ship can travel on the lowered lever element. There may be a centring system (41, 42) for centring of the lowered lever element about the moving ship. The centring system may comprise a control board and a backboard that slides against the outer skin of the ship.
