[origin: WO2005044387A1] The aim of the invention is to provide an inert gas fire extinguishing installation that is embodied in such a way that when it is installed in a target area (1), no openings are required in the top or walls for mounting a supply line system (4), and separate areas for storing the pressurised, oxygen-displacing gas (3) used as an extinguishing agent are rendered superfluous. To this end, a device is provided for preventing and extinguishing fires, wherein a buffer reservoir (2), the supply line system (4) and the extinguishing nozzles (5) are arranged as a compact module in the target area (1) itself.
