Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2407837A] The traffic control barrier, primarily for use as a barrier which can be readily transported and manoeuvred, comprises at least two side-by-side elongate solid blocks 1 whose sides are detachably connected together by one or more metallic connectors, the longitudinal axis of the or each connector extending in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of each block. The blocks, in plan view, are preferably generally elliptical or rectangular. Pads of compressible material are preferably positioned below each block at or adjacent the block ends, and additional pads may be located between the ends. The underside of each block and/or pad may include ridges or grooves. The blocks are preferably formed wholly or predominantly from a cementitious material. The sides of the block may be housed in a metallic casing and one or more metal rods may be welded to the opposed internal surfaces of the metallic casing so that they extend across the width of the casing in a direction normal to the longitudinal axis of the casing. The rods are preferably welded using friction welding technique. Also claimed is a method of producing a dismountable traffic control barrier.
