Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005054559A1] The invention relates to a method of preparing a needled glass mat. The inventive method comprises the following steps consisting in: a) depositing or projecting fibres onto a conveyor in order to form a blanket of said fibres, which is driven by the conveyor; b) and needling using barbed needles which pass through the blanket and move in the direction of said blanket at essentially the same speed of same while passing therethrough, with a punch density varying between 1 and 25/cm<2>. The invention is quick and effective and the mat produced can be easily deformed by hand in order to be placed in a resin-injected composite production mould (RTM). The inventive mat can also be incorporated in a sheet moulding compound (SMC) and pressure moulded.
