Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005024529A2] An electrical actuator is characterized by applying electrical power directly to a smart muscle wire to produce an output motion of the electrical actuator. The smart muscle wire is attached to a moveable member, for example a slide or a lever, to produce the output motion. The smart muscle wire is preferably fixed at each end and looped around a reaction member that is attached to the moveable member either as a separate or an integral part, to double the force that is applied to move the moveable member of the electrical actuator. The force and/or the stroke of the electrical actuator can be designed to meet various requirements easily by changing wire diameter and/or length.
