[origin: WO2005062001A1] Disclosed is a method for measuring the filling level (7) of a filling material (1) in a container (3), involving a filling level measurement device (5) which operates according to the running time principle, working in a reliable manner, and wherein transmission signals (S) are periodically emitted in the direction of the filling material (1), the echo signals thereof being recorded and transformed into an echo function (A(t)), wherein at least one echo property of the echo function (A(t)) is determined, and the echo properties of at least one prior measurement is used to produce a prognosis (V) for the echo properties which are to be expected for the actual measurement, the echo properties of the actual measurement are determined by incorporating the prognosis (V) and the actual filling level (7) is determined on the basis of the echo properties.
