Abstract (en)
The method involves determining retarder speeds at two different points of time, and obtaining a temporal derivative of the determined speeds of the retarder. Braking torques (M ret1, M ret2) of the retarder are determined at the two points of time and vehicle configuration is determined from a rear axle drive ratio (i ha) and a dynamic tire radius (r dyn). Vehicle mass is determined based on the torques, derivative, ratio and radius. The vehicle mass m fzg is computed from the equation: m fzg = (30x(i ha) 2>),(3.14x(r dyn) 2>) x(M ret2-M ret1),(n ret2-n ret1). An independent claim is also included for a system for computing mass of a motor vehicle.
