The thread cutting tool (2) creates a thread, in particular an internal thread, without producing any swarf. The deforming height (Uh) of the thread cutting projections (3, 4, 5) at the front of the tool are made with a radial rise (SF) and with a shaping surface (As) which are specially adapted to the material of the workpiece.
