Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2005063281A2] The invention relates to means for treatment of acute and chronic infections with viruses pathogenic to both humans and animals, which assemble at the cell membrane and are released from the cell surface by budding. The above are pathogens for infectious diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, haemorrhagic fever, SARS, smallpox, measles, polio or flu. Said means contain inhibitors of protein folding as active ingredients, including inhibitors of cellular folding enzymes (enzymatic chaperones) and also substances which block protein folding by chemical chaperones. The following substance classes and derivatives thereof belong to the above: geldanamycin, deoxyspergualin, 4-PBA or herbimycin A. The highly organised processes of the assembly and proteolytic maturation of viral structure proteins are inhibited by said means. As a result the release and production of infectious filial viruses are interrupted.
