Abstract (en)

[origin: EP1521052A1] The projectile (1) has a penetrating body (2) with an inner cavity (3) closed by a base (4) and made from a material with an elastic limit of at least 1200 MPa. The body has a forward point (2a) with at least one insert (7) of a material with high mechanical characteristics and denser than the body, such as a fritted tungsten alloy, made e.g. in the shape of segments fitted into a body recess and held in place by a ring (10). An independent claim is included for different insert shapes, including bars enclosed in or projecting from the projectile's nose.
