[origin: EP1703012A2] Operating a washing machine detergent dispenser comprising a drawer with at least two compartments and a water diverter for switching the water supply between the compartments, where one compartment has a siphon for emptying the compartment and is not flushed out in the last part of the washing cycle, comprises emptying the siphon compartment by filling it with water until the water level reaches the overflow height of the siphon. An independent claim is also included for a washing machine for carrying out the above process, comprising a control unit that diverts water to the siphon compartment in the last part of the washing cycle.
